Search engine optimization (SEO) is the art of optimizing a page or a whole web site in order for it to be:

1. Easily indexed by search engines (the more pages indexed the better)

2. Ranked higher in the search results

Not Web Design creates all your pages so they are easily indexed. This is done by creating Search Engine Friendly (SEF) URL's. A search engine friendly URL looks like this:

http://www.yoursite.com/subject/keyword/keyword/index.html

As opposed to this:

http://www.yoursite.com/index.php?var=1&var=2&id=123123&act=something

The first example is much easier for Search Engines to index and it contains important keywords that help boost the ranking of your site in the results for queries on those keywords.
