The International Joomla conference was set to be a great conference already, but with the perfectly timed release of Joomla 2.5 a few weeks before, there would be plenty to discuss.
This conference always features plenty of die hard Joomla fans, and the presentations lead to a lot of talk about Joomla’s future. I don’t want you to worry, Joomla’s not going anywhere. However, the joomlaheads were worried about future versions of Joomla and the lack of contributions.
Conferences like J and Beyond act as a rallying cry, and I think the presentations will motivate a lot of people. On day 1 there was a presentation by Jeremy Wilken called Occupy Joomla, which focused on regaining market share (not his words) and injecting inspiration into the project. All of the presentations were given by people with intense passion for Joomla and want the best for it.
This is what’s great about open source software; people feel a passion for it and will do their best to make sure the project works. As if it were made to highlight this fact, Andrea Tarr and Mark Dexter gave a great presentation called Where is Joomla going and how do we get there? This is a good road-map that all the Joomla developers and contributors can get behind.
JAB12 was definitely and informative experience and hopefully this will mean great things for Joomla in the coming months.
